Meet the Board Members

Dan & Laura Reese

Dan & Laura are the founders of H4H. Dan served 20 years of service between the US Marines, Army and MTNG. Laura was a professional office manager for several years. They both took an early retirement to focus on helping our veterans and first responders.

Mason Jacobson

Mason is a USCG Veteran, 1982-1986. Mason was a SAR aircrewman with the Alaskan Patrol unit Air Station Kodiak Alaska. He was a Missionary helicopter pilot in Africa and Papua New Guinea and Missionary to Peru. Today Mason is committed to helping veterans and first responders with PTS and suicide prevention.

Montana Chapter Leader

Jason Montana

Jason spent 22 years in the Army and the Army National Guard (Red Bulls!!). Deployed multiple times. Retired out in 2012 as a E-6/Ssg, Scouts out!!! I love taking folks out on overland adventures, building bonds that last, and learning what each of us goes through, and sharing how we deal with it. Veterans and first responders, No One Fights Alone!!!

Chris Frizzell

Chris is a 20 year Army/ARNG Veteran. During his service, he served multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks to those deployments, he has experience working extensively with VA Mental Health Programs including Veterans Bridge to Recovery, Peer to Peer Groups and PPH Programs.

Ruth Nye

Ruth is our current president of the board of directors and has been with Homeward for Heroes since 2019. She served as an officer in the US Coast Guard and was an Olympic Kayaker. She is a well known local to the Hood River community.

Wayne Appl

Although he is not a veteran, he comes from a military family. Father and mother served in the Army during WWII, brother served in Vietnam. He has volunteered on 11 H4H treks and am also a certified Herd 2 Human equine EAP instructor having conducted or assisted in 31 programs for veterans and first responders.

After graduating in 1977, Bob spent 20 years in the Air Force, serving in 19 countries and retiring on the F-117 Stealth. Adjusting to civilian life was tough, but one night his mom saw a news story about Homeward for Heroes and urged him to join. "This has been the best therapy I’ve ever had," Bob shared.

Chad found Homeward for Heroes through a veterans' Facebook page while looking for an off-road group. After brain surgeries and health challenges, he joined a trek with Homeward, unsure of what to expect. "It was phenomenal," Chad says. The experience brought adventure, healing, and a strong community of veterans and first responders who understood him.
